The election process of the Tahuna Normal Intermediate School Board of Trustees has been completed. At the close of nominations, the number of nominations were fewer than the number of vacancies required to be filled, thereby all nominated were duly elected - Parent representatives - Mike McCaw, Brendan Murray, Gerardo Luna and Rhys Wilson. Marianne Coughlin was elected as the Staff representative.

We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated, talented and supportive Board of Trustees - Mike, Gerardo and Brendan are continuing members and Rhys and Marianne are new to the Board.  I would also like to thank our outgoing BOT members Tony Gomez, Steve Coombes, Cynthia Matai and Yvonne Toa for the great work they have done while they have been on the Board.  As Principal I have really appreciated their support and commitment.

Our Trustees work together really hard to make sure every child reaches their highest possible standard in educational achievement. 

As part of that key responsibility, here are some of the things our board does:

• Work with the principal and consult with staff, students and the community

• Set the educational goals and strategic direction of the school

• Monitor progress and let parents know how the school is progressing against its annual targets and how well students are achieving

• Decide how the school's funding will be spent

• Support the school's principal and support the development of all staff

• Oversee the management of staff, property, finances, curriculum and administration.
