Camp Tirohanga 2017

Karen Parker —

Great weather, great challenges and fun activities.

On Monday the 20th of March room 15 travelled by bus to Camp Tirohanga for three days of activities.  The first stop was Outram Glen for a half day walk.

When we got to camp we had afternoon tea and were shown around the camp site before setting up the tents.  Once the tents were set up we split into our cooking groups to make one pot nachos.

On Tuesday the weather was very hot so we went for a walk along the loop track first. It was very cool in places.  During the loop track walk we walked through pine trees which has shed their nettles, it was very soft under foot and a change from the slippery bush track.

When we got back to camp we had morning tea and sorted out the activities for the day.  We had bivvy building, observational drawing, confidence course and our camp game shows.  The bugs for observational drawing were the huhu beetles that had come to meet us on the deck when we got up in the morning. Some of our bivvys had doors, paths, and other homely features.

We finished off our day by taking a walk to the glow worms. They were lining the bank of the loop track.  There were so many of them.

We would like thank Lex, Mike and Tim for coming as our parent help as well as Chopper.
