Get The Hub writing

Sean Minhinnick —

Over the last few weeks we've been busy creating beautiful poetry and other writing to share with another school in Taupō.

Remember the old-school joy of receiving a postcard in the mail? Of writing to a pen pal? In The Hub we're on a mission to get our kids writing more, and in different ways, and to different audiences!

The focus of the writing is all about making connections with others and the journey between our two places, the road that we could take to connect with one another.

We have been linked to a school in Taupō.

We've spent the last few weeks discussing poetry, different styles of poetry, exploring Taupō, discussing what makes Ōtepoti so unique, examining maps and sharing our memories of 'the road', family holidays and trips.

We've now created two poems (one from each class) and postcards with 6 word sentences about our special trips;

• Something you saw

• Something you remember

• A person who was with you

• A wonderful imagined thing that didn’t actually happen

• The reason for your journey

• Your own six word sentence

The writing has been funny, beautiful, imaginative and moving.

When we get back to The Hub all the students have got their own special glasses so they can read their poem and the hidden messages around it; more on that later!

We can't wait to share our writing with our partner school and of course read the writing and poems they've created for us.
