Table Tennis 2016

Kelsey Brocklebank —

Tahuna students achieve highly in Dunedin school competition and representative tournaments.

Tahuna had 8 students playing in the Dunedin-wide competition on Thursdays at Kaikorai Valley College.  Each student was paired with another so they were able to play doubles and singles. Ruby and Devon, Alex and Isaac, Louis and Ben all played in the first division, with our Year 7s Ben and Aiden playing in 2nd division. Thanks  to all those who filled in throughout the season, especially Blake Jackson-Ferguson who was called on most weeks!

Results: 1st Division.

1st: Alex and Isaac.            3rd: Devon and Ruby.

Results: 2nd Division.

2nd: Ben and Aiden.

Representative results:

Alex Clarkson, Isaac Hobbs, and Ruby Anderson attended the 2016 New Zealand Table Tennis Nationals over the school holidays. Alex's Otago U13 B boys team were placed 3rd in B Grade and Alex also won bronze in the U11 Boys Doubles in the NZ Open which followed the team's event. Ruby's U13 girls team narrowly lost to Waikato to finish fourth overall, while Isaac was sadly injured on day two of the event and had to withdraw.

Alex Clarkson, Isaac Hobbs, Ruby Anderson, and Devon Keen were all selected to represent Otago in the Otago v Southland Junior Shield fixture held in Invercargill. Otago won 60 matches to 50 with all the Tahuna players contributing wins to the total.

Well done to all those involved!
