ANOTHER EXCITING TERM IN YEAR 7!

Patrice Connor —

It's hard to believe that the holidays are looming and our Year 7 students are heading into the final term of their first year at Tahuna.  It's been a busy year and will continue to be that way in Term 4.

Marae Week is a major focus for all Year 7 students and the second week back will see all Year 7 classes will be involved in this programme based totally on the Maori culture.  The week starts with a Powhiri on Monday morning and students will then take part in a wide range of activities including tukutuku, Maori plant use, flax weaving, haka / poi throughout the week. Marae Week ends on Friday with a hangi lunch and a special Marae Week assembly. This week is always a highlight on the Year 7 calendar.

Another major focus for Term 4 is taking part in the DCC run South Dunedin Cycle Programme.  This involves classes having three sessions with the people from the DCC learning about cycling safely as well as exploring the cycleways around our local area.  We hope this will help our students to have the confidence to bike to school.

Other focuses of this term are preparation for our end of year concert at the College of Education Auditorium and our Year 7 fun day at Moana pool in the last week of term.
