Dads having fun at camp!

Karen Parker —

Even the dads couldn't resist the noodles.

In week 3, Room 20 headed out to Camp Tirohanga. We departed on the bus for our walk to the Outram Glen. The walk was fairly easy for us and we made great time despite parts of the track being slippery. Our lunch break was down by the water where we had a stone skimming competition. It fun to see others getting further and further with their stones.

We then headed back to the bus and off to camp. Our weather was quite wet so we weren't able to put up the tents for the first night but that didn't deter us. We unpacked our gear in the bunk rooms where some of our bags looked like they were spring loaded and our stuff was everywhere.

We were fortunate enough to have Amadao come and talk to us about the different types of light. We learnt about bioluminescence and how glow worms use this to attract prey.  We also got experience activities with hydrogen and liquid nitrogen. Did you know that all clouds are white regardless of the colour of the liquid? Check out the photos of us sniffing a just juice cloud.

Tuesday was a better day and once we had made our pancakes we were set for the activities. These were bivy building, art, confidence course, giant puzzles, glow worms and a stream study. We caught many fresh water crayfish (yabbies). One yabbie only had one pincer and a group was lucky enough to see a yabbie shed its skin.

We had many games of GA-GA ball a hand ball game which originated in Israel.

Thank you to all the parents who came along to support our camp.
