Ruby's Anzac day

When it came to Anzac day I got up at 5:00 am to go to the Dawn service. I go to the Dawn service so I can remember the good soldiers who died for us and also because my Dad was a soldier. He traveled all over the world to Austria, East Timor, Afghanistan and all over Europe.

When the dawn service started there were schools and the airforce and Marines marching. After that the gun salute started they did 2 cannon shots. Then the RSA choir started to sing. In between everything we did there was a 1 minute of silence. When the RSA choir finished it was started to get to the end of the Anzac service. When the dawn service finished, my dad and mum and me went to go talk to some friends.

When we were talking to some of our friends a photographer came up to me and asked me if he could take a photo of me. I said yes the next morning my mum sent a picture of the newspaper and I was on the front cover. This is what they said.

“ Ruby Sadgrove (10) of Dunedin, Lays a wreath while wearing the medals of her father, retired Royal New Zealand Engineers Sergeant Mark Sadgrove, at Dunedin service”.

So that was my Anzac day!
