Year 7 Term 2

Grant Philips —

It's the start of another full on term at Tahuna for our year 7 students  with a big focus on class camps & Science topics.

This term is very busy for our students with eight Year 7 camps taking place at Tirohanga. These camps help to increase students sense of personal confidence and independence through safe challenging and enjoyable learning experiences. Students also learn about being a supportive group member and look to develop a positive and responsible attitude to their own and other's physical well- being.

Science topics this term include an Inquiry into Weather & Climate Change as we explore the impact on humans & animals as we adapt to  changing environmental factors. Students will also be carrying out practical experiments as we explore Fair Testing in preparation for this years Science Fair. Reading, Writing, Oral & Visual Language will be integrated throughout these units of work.

Maths topics will cover Statistics, Area & Perimeter, Multiplication & Division. These topics will be taught in a combination of home rooms & streamed maths classes.

In Physical Education we have a number of specialist coaches coming to Tahuna to take Cricket & Futsal.  This year for the first time we are introducing the tradition Māori  game of       Ki-o-rahi into our sports programme.

Student Teachers will be on posting this Term in most Year 7 classes with first & second year students out in school for 2 weeks, followed by our final year students who will be teaching for up to 3 weeks. We know that teachers & Tahuna students will work hard to ensure that our teacher trainees  have a positive experience over this time .

Lastly the school would like to thank all parents who will give their time to support our Camps this term as we could not offer this experience without your support.
