Super 11’s Interisland Test - Jacob Shaw

Manuel Wehi —

Jacob Shaw has done an amazing job at the Super 11's BMX trials. He is one of four boys that have been selected to represent the South Island. Here is a recount written by Jacob explaining his experience.

October 2020 I had the opportunity to trial for the Super 11’s test team held at Christchurch City Bmx track. Previously this has been run as Mighty 11s, a Trans-Tasman event, however due to Covid-19 restrictions BMXNZ are running this as an Inter-Island alternative. 4 boys and 4 girls from the South Island were selected at trials for the two teams to represent South Island. I made the boys team! An equivalent event was run in the North Island for the North test team. South and North will race off against each other at the North Island Titles held in Te Awamutu in December 2020.

It was a big day at trials, racing 5 extra motos, as well as the 5 motos and a deadman final for age group racing. It was a hot and windy weekend after cold weather and snow in Dunedin. Two fellow Dunedin Club riders trialed alongside me, one of them making the team also, and is our boys team captain. The other two riders are from Christchurch and Cromwell. We have a Coach and Manager for our team travelling to the North Island with us, and training is about to start! Our team will be supplied race jerseys for the event, I can’t wait to see them.
