Should the name Anzac be allowed as a baby name?

Oliver Bates and Emma Sinclair —

Room 6 has been writing persuasive arguments about 'should babies be allowed to be called Anzac'. Currently there is a law in place that prevents parents from using this name. Read through some of our argument writing and then decide for yourself.

Hi there, I am Ollie and I am writing to debate why

babies in New Zealand cannot be called Anzac.

Personally, I think it would be a great name because it has a catchy ring to it like “good morning Anzac “ or “Pass the ball Anzac!”.

Anzac would be a great name because in New Zealand it would honor New Zealand's soldiers who fought in both World Wars.

Some people might really like the name Anzac and would want to call their children Anzac. Our government shouldn't be able to tell us what we can or cannot call our children, it should be the parent’s decision. Even if people are against the name Anzac it doesn't matter because all they have to do is not call their own child Anzac.

In conclusion, the name Anzac should be a name for not only boys but also for girls. It is a catchy name and it represents a special time in New Zealand history. The Government should not decide what parents should call their children.

Thank you for reading my debate for why the name Anzac should be a name in New Zealand.

Should the name Anzac be a baby name?

I think it shouldn't be a baby name because the baby would have had nothing to do with war.

Anzac should not be a name because theres no respect for the soldiers/ troops. The reason is it's not respectful and the person didn't have anything to do with war or hasn't been a soldier.

It's not a real name. ANZAC is not a real name. It is an acronym. The acronym was created out of respect for the soldiers that fought in WW1.

ANZAC should only be used for remembering soldiers/ troops. On the 25th of April, 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the beach in Gallipoli now called ANZAC Cove.

IT JUST SHOULDN'T! Because it's more than just a name people will get teased.

In conclusion, I think that ANZAC shouldn't be a name because the person had nothing to do with war it's not respectful for soldiers and ANZAC isn't a real name is an acronym.
