Term 2 for Year 8's

Salote Rouvi —

Chemistry, Swimming, and Standing Up for Myself are the major topics for Year 8.

Following a successful and busy Term 1, Term 2 starts off with a bang in the Science Lab, literally.

Dr Dave Warren and Staff from the Otago University 'wowed' several classes with Liquid Nitrogen and a balloon this week.  The students watched in awe as the gas produced from the Liquid Nitrogen filling the balloon until it popped.

Chemistry is a focus for Term 2. The Tahuna Science Lab will be visited several times by each class where a variety of Chemistry lessons will take place.

Our PE topic for this term is Swimming. Each Year 8 class will visit the pool 4 times. The students will go through activities such as Snorkeling, Safety with Life Jackets, Stroke Development and Water Polo. It is a fantastic programme that builds on the skills covered in Year 7.

Standing Up for Myself is our Health Topic. This is a valuable topic that our Year 8 students gain a lot of knowledge on ways to look after themselves and others. Constable Parcelle meets every class and covers topics such as Cyber Bullying from a Police point of view outlining the importance of keeping safe on the internet.

We look forward to another great term.
