Year 7's taking part in the Great Otago Gull Count.

This week the Year 7 students have been working through some of the Sea Week activities. One of our main activities has been to participate in some citizenship science through the Great Otago Gull Count.

Classes has been observing the behaviour of the gulls around school to answer the big question- do gulls have behavioural flexibility to adapt their foraging behaviour to human time schedules when beneficial?

We are looking at their behaviour throughout the day and tracking when and where the gulls are hanging out to forage for food. One interesting change is the number of gulls eating the food off the new courts.

Some of the classes have been very excited to see a juvenile black backed gull.
