Term 2 Technology

We have enjoyed welcoming new groups of students to our tech areas this term. Our key focus is reducing waste at Tahuna, the following is some of what will be covered over the coming weeks.

In Visual Art, students will be incorporating harakeke, land and Tahuna school value symbols into multi media art works. Sketching, charcoal, white chalk, sketching what we what we put in the rubbish.

In E-Tech students will be addressing E-Waste and Acrylic Waste issues

If we identify a problem, can we come up with any solutions?

How do we showcase our solution(s)

In Food Technology students will investigate waste Free Lunchboxes, trial and design food products to minimise waste in the lunchbox.

Research and implement ways to minimise waste in the Food Tech room?

*Behavioural or process changes, Packaging waste (Ecokaps/reusable containers/bulk buying/what can be recycled), Food Waste and Water/Electricity waste.

In Hard Materials students will look at minimising waste in industrial processes, using planter boxes as example

Minimising waste by design - biodegradable inputs

Minimising waste by re-using and repairing (e.g trailer)

Big idea: the carbon cycle - raw materials, energy, plants and animals.
