Year 8
Super start to the term with our PBL igniter taking place.Tahuna students have been looking at the amount of rubbish we produce. Throughout the term students will be looking at 'our waste' and ways we can reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose. Each class will be researching and developing solutions to reduce the amount of rubbish that goes to landfill from Tahuna. Our ultimate goal is to reduce by more than half the amount of rubbish from the start of the term.
Year 8 swimming has started with each team heading to Moana Pool. Team's 4 and 5 go on Tuesday's and Team 6 on Thursday. Each session will involve students receiving a swimming lesson for 30 mins, water skills based on surf skills, IRB boat and raft building. Lots of fun activities to help develop our student's swimming skills and confidence in the water.
Winter sports are underway with Hockey and basketball already started and Netball due next week. It is awesome to see so many Year 8 students getting involved in their final year and giving it a go!
This week has seen a cold snap and some wet days. So it is a timely reminder around uniforms for students. Dust off the Tahuna jacket to wear with our formal uniform (no hoodies please). There have been a few rugby hoodies popping up which is great to see students getting involved in club sports but they are not part of our Tahuna uniform. Polyprops or thermals can be worn under the Tahuna uniform so long as they are black or dark blue (navy). Navy Canterbury track pants can be worn with P.E. gear during the winter terms or on cold days. An extra jacket may be worn to and from school on very cold or wet days but we ask that this is worn over top of our Tahuna jacket not instead of. Any Taonga or special bracelets are to be worn tucked away i.e. under clothing so that they can be protected and not lost!
