Lovelock Relays Success

Menzie from Room 6 recently competed in the Lovelock Relay in a cross country team event.

During winter I run for Caversham Harriers and do heaps of fun running events around Dunedin. Athletic Clubs take turns holding different events all throughout the winter months, such as relay, cross country and road races.

On Saturday 29th April, me and a few others from Tahuna competed for our running clubs in a 1,600m relay. In the blaring hot sun we had to run our 400m stretch around the University Oval. I had been put as the last runner in my four-people team, which included Josh Keogh, Nate Crawford, Perry Saker (my brother) and myself. We came 1st out of the 13 competing teams in the under 12’s category, with Hill City University hot on our heels, 10 seconds behind us. It was a super fun running event and winning made it even more worth it.

This weekend I’m competing in the Ponydales Cross Country (organized by Leith Harriers) at the Wakari Pony Club, it's another one of many fun running events I’ll be doing this winter with Cavy.

As well as doing Harriers I’m hoping to represent Tahuna at the Otago Cross Country Champs and South Zones, (like last year but I was representing my Primary School then). Last term I managed to get my gold fitness badge and get a Beep Test time that I was pretty pleased with. This term and the rest of the year I’m going to try to improve and get my Elite badge and a faster Beep Test time.
