Tikanga and Te Reo shone last week as the Year 7's held their Marae week.

What an awesome week of Māori language and cultural activities.

The 2017 School year is coming to end and it is appropriate that we reflect on another very successful and rewarding year at Tahuna.

Year 7 students have all been working hard to produce their very own picture books!

Shelby, Lucy, Kyall, Amadee and Ruby have been regulars down at the Tomahawk Lagoon, water testing.

Enjoy looking at the photos of year 7 pupils and what they experienced during Marae Week within the Specialist Rooms at Tahuna.

Marae week was a week of wonderful exploration and creating, the students in room 7 were able to experience making poi, flax weaving, toku toku panelling, necklace making and kai cooking. Monique "I loved making poi" Fox " I liked doing the weaving and food making". Excellent week had by all. 

Down but not out at halftime, the boys dug deep and finally overwhelmed Balmac in extra time.

We have been lucky enough to be chosen by Lions to be the recipient of the Taieri Gorge Fundraiser for this year. It is really important that we get great support for this opportunity so that we can supply resources in Science & Technology for current students and those to come.

A full on week in Room 19 with various art work, flax creations and Maori food being created at Tahuna Normal Intermediate. 

Rooms 1, 3, 5, 9 & 10 visited Otakou marae on Monday. They were welcomed by Komene and Paulette Cassidy who guided Tahuna students, staff and parents around the wharenui, urupa and church.

What an amazing week for all of us!

Picture Books with a purpose!

Rooms 4, 11, 12 and 13 has a wonderful snippet of aspects of Maori culture and practice when they were fortunate enough to spend the day at the Otakou Marae with Komene and Paulette Cassidy and their helpers.

A group of our talented performers entertained the elderly at the Nation's Church last Wednesday morning.

Sam Stedman received an award at the Otago Science Fair for his project on Social Media and Bullying.

This term the students at Tahuna have been writing songs in music. Some of the students have had the opportunity to record their song with Mr Breese and uploaded to soundcloud.com for the world to hear. 

TRANSPORTATION is the theme, natural timber the primary material.
