Tahuna Specialist Areas

Students have been enjoying hands on learning in each of the specialist areas. Check out some of these impressive creations! Ask to see what your child has been learning by viewing their individual Google Classroom documents.

Visual Art: Yr7 students have had fun creating hexagonal art work reflecting the Tahuna school values, along with the colourful tiki art, influenced by N.Z artist Tanya McCabe.

Year 8 students varied art work shows a wonderful contrast of using gold & silver pen on black paper, along with shading and watercolours. 

Design Technology: Year 7 students designed and created jewellery, thanks to parents who talked to their children about patterns. Year 8 students have been designing and testing downhill racers. Thanks to those at home that helped their children with the physics and machines quiz.

Food Technology: Year 7 students have been exploring 'Kiwiana' and producing some iconic NZ foods. They also designed and made their own rice based snack.

Year 8 students had a focus on 'Around the World' and were required to research, plan and make 3 recipes from various countries. There was some amazing smells and creations, including Kruidnoten, churros, panna cotta, spring rolls, dumplings, wontons, crepes, yorkshire puddings and sopaipillas.

Hard Materials: Students have had a great time in the Materials workshop making Wooden structures from White pine, Plywood, Aluminium or Acrylic.

Each student can choose their own project from the materials available and they are learning how to shape those materials.Students learn how to use tools safely and the skills of using each different tool or process.
