Tahuna Tech

All students have been attending their tech class for 2 lessons each week as part of the new timetable structure. Enjoy looking through the photos of students engaged in these subject areas!

In Hard Materials, students are making planter boxes to beautify the school. The key skills are measuring, cutting and drilling. The students work together as a class to make each box. Measure twice, cut once is the aim, as mis-measured slats just won’t fit on the frame. This task consolidates key skills needed for improving the environment.

In Visual Art, Year 7 students have been learning skills and techniques in Art, as well as looking at and talking about famous artists and their work. Ask your child if they know who painted The Mona Lisa or The Scream and see if they can explain what style of art Surrealism is. Through the art elements students are learning techniques of how to shade and show illusions within their work.

Year 8 students have been learning about portraits, how to plan them, and proportions of facial features. If your child is in art, please ask them how they know where the eyes, nose, ears go within a portrait.

In E-Tech students have been planning and making bird houses, cat houses, money boxes, jewellery, bag tags and wooden car models.

In Food Technology students have enjoyed some sensory science experiments, completing their Food Tech licences and getting involved in practical lessons where our school values and co-operative skills are equally as important.
