Hey, I’m Julia and I don’t game a lot but when I do, I do it with my friends and have a whole heap of fun and this is why I chose to argue that gaming is a sport.

I think that anything can be a sport if you make it one.

All sports start with the idea of wanting to have fun. All sports are made so people can enjoy themselves. If you ask someone who plays football or rugby why they play, they would say, ‘because it’s fun and I like the competition’ or something along those lines. Another thing they would say is ‘because I get to play with my friends.’ Both of these things apply to gaming as well as football and rugby or more ‘traditional’ sports.

Some people can’t necessarily play other sports that include lots and lots of physical movement and therefore gaming is a good substitute that includes the same competition and enjoyment as other sports.

Gaming is like anything else in life, you need skill to be good. Skill only comes if you practice, anyone who plays sport will be able to tell you that. I know for a fact that people who game practice a lot (I can use my brother as evidence). Yes, practice. Practice makes perfect (or so they say) and going to your football practice and practicing for gaming may look different at a glance, but when you take a closer look they are more similar than they seem. For instance, they both start with the idea of wanting to get better and wanting to improve the skills you already have or wanting to gain completely new skills and then perfecting them.

Everyone likes some good old fashioned competition.

Sport and gaming both have lots of competition, and that’s just another item to add to the list of things that they have in common. Competition is a big factor of sport and gaming. Without competition you have to admit, it wouldn’t be nearly as fun, would it? You may be wondering how gaming is a competition, well gaming is a competition because you and your team go up against others and try to win. Just like in other sports.

So, I think that gaming is a sport. All of these things that gaming has in common, with other sports help us link back to the fact that gaming is a sport.I hope that I’ve made you think, because thinking is good. So keep in thinking…It’s not going to do you any harm…

Is gaming a real sport?

I believe that gaming is a real sport, because if you want to become the best of the best, without a doubt, you need skill. You need to have lightning fast reflexes. For instance, if you get shot at, you need to quickly shoot back and defend yourself. Furthermore in a sport like Badminton you need quick reflexes to hit the shuttlecock, just like gaming.

When you become a professional gamer you can get paid significantly. In support of this, a pro gamer named Bugha has won over $3,100,000 just from playing Fortnite. To relate this back to the argument, if you look at Lionel Mesi he has a salary of $26,000,000 a year just from playing football.

My next point is that gaming requires practise, as well as any other sport. In support of this, there is another professional gamer named Bizzle, he plays 45 hours a week! This is just to give that perspective a whole week is only 168 hours so he practices nearly one quarter of his time every week! Other pro Footballers practice 4-5 hours a day which is 20-30 hours a week, so they practice about the same amount of time.

To sum all of this up gaming requires skill, you can get paid, and gaming requires practise. For these reasons gaming is just the same as any other sport, and should be treated so.

Is Gaming a real sport?

Is gaming a real sport? Yes! In my point of view it is. Gaming requires just as much skill, concentration and time as any other sport. If you think gaming isn’t a real sport, my job is to try to convince you otherwise.

Firstly, to enter competitions and hopefully win, you need to train. Lot’s of Fortnite or Gaming stars train for long hard working hours, just like sports stars. Kyle Giersdorf or “Bugha” as we know of him, spent 6 hours a day to get high performing skills. Kyle Giersdorf or “Bugha” trained for 6 hours and was still on top of his school work and maintained good grades. Lot’s of sports players had to keep their homework and grades on point if they wanted to train or play their games. Training is a big thing in sports and gaming, as you see with my FIRST point I have already proven gaming is a sport.

Secondly, you get paid! Yes paid! In the first ever Fortnite competition, held in New York Arthur Ashe Stadium 2019, the winner received a $3 Million dollar cash prize, and an amazing Fortnite World Cup trophy.

Thirdly, your heart rate goes up, I mean it must n't it? Lot’s of sports players' heart rate goes up by at least 30 to 40 beats per minute! Gaming get’s your heart rate up every time something exciting or threatening happens, Gamers heart rate goes up just like sports stars.

Everything I have just told you leads right back to how gaming is a real sport. I may have convinced you, or I may have not. But that is my conclusion to how, gaming is a real sport.
