Tai Tapu School Property Update
Tai Tapu School - May 6, 2022
The Library
Our school library is open and ready for all ākonga to select books and have a place to read during lunch breaks. We have a new timetable for classes and our young librarians will begin their training next week.
We are looking for a small group of dedicated whānau to help keep the library in good working order during the year. If you are able to offer some of your time please contact Kathryn in the office, kathryn.fairbrass@taitapu.school.nz.
The Swimming Pool
Our pool project application is still in with the Selwyn Council, our contractor believes that we should have our building consent sometime in early June. Once the consent is granted his team will be ready to go and construction will get underway.
The Board and I are very much aware that the timeline has stretched out from a Term 1 project completion to a Term 4 project completion. We have had two factors holding up the consent process, firstly the level of detailing the council requires for a school pool, and secondly, the impact of COVID on all workforces and supply chains.
We will continue to give you regular updates as new information comes in.
I have attached the original concept design of our new pool. Our school is very fortunate to have such a generous construction company (Mighty Staggz Custom Pools.) building our pool for cost. Without this generosity, we could never have replaced our old school pool.
Senior Playground
You will have noticed that the senior playground is closed at the moment. The safety shock mats below the playground structures need replacing. They are showing signs of age and are at end of life. The area also sustained damage as a result of a tree fall causing more damage.
As our student's safety is an absolute priority at Tai Tapu School, the playground must remain closed until the fall zone under the playground is replaced.
We have received funding to have the shock mats replaced and are in the process of engaging a company to do this work. We will give the community an update on the timeframe once we have this information.
The Pumptrack/Bike Track
We have our concept design for the bike track, unfortunately, this student-led project is on hold until the pool project is completed. We will provide updates once the pool project is completed. Once we are ready to go on the track we will call for whānau expertise to bring the student's ideas to life!
If you have any questions, please drop in at school, email, or give me a call.
