Celebration of Writing in Pikorua

Mandy Aldridge-Neal —

Two students, Cartier Dann and Lilly Fowler in Pikorua have recently had their work published in the Otago Daily Times and we are very proud of their efforts.

Looking at the clouds.

Staring up at the gray, interesting clouds I wondered if I could just reach up into the sky and pull a bit of it down to me. The gray sky candyfloss looked like somebody had got an egg beater and wiped it till it was as soft as a silk pillow. Listening to the soft noise of the wind blow through my hair I thought I was probably going to fall asleep. It was one of the calmest moments of my life. I could hear the wind blowing and birds tweeting. I wonder if everyone else had the same opinion as me?

Lock Down

Remember hearing the siren wailing that made you jump out of your seat?

Remember all the teachers locking all the doors with a nervous look on their face?

Remember all the teachers telling you to be quiet?

That was a lock down.

Remember being all gathered in the middle finishing off a movie?

Remember when the teachers turned off the lights?

That was a lock down.

Remember wondering how long you will be there for?

Remember all the parents waiting anxiously outside?

Do you remember the rush of relief when you touched the door handle to get outside?

That was Christchurch’s darkest day.
