School Attendance
Every day matters for every child and young person.
Every day matters for every child and young person. Regular attendance at school helps build and maintain a child’s learning, establishes positive daily routines, and promotes well-being by connecting them to their peers.
Schools are required to communicate with the Ministry of Education when any of their students have had five or more full days of unjustified absence in a term. Unjustified absences have been defined below.
‘Unknown reason' - This is a temporary entry and means we have not heard the reason for your child's absence.
'Explained but unjustified' - This means that you have provided the school with a reason but it does not fit within our school policy for a justified absence.
'No information - truant' - This means that no explanation has been provided about why your child has been absent from school.
‘Holiday during term time’ - This is classified as an unjustified absence.
