OUTSTANDING ORTON BRADLEY!

Tai Tapu School —

If you were at the year 6-7 camp at Orton Bradley Park, then you know that it was the G.O.A.T! Our class slept in tents with friends, ‘Some chatted away but most people got to sleep at about quarter past eleven.

As the first day started, everyone was hustling and bustling to go.   “I’m most excited for high ropes”, said Sienna, and Indi was most looking forward to kayaking. Once everyone got there, they did a bush walk with a Bear Grylls bush challenge where everybody got a little bit wet. They got a little bit wet because they had to build “waterproof” shelters. One group’s shelter was possibly sabotaged and it fell on top of them as they were getting out.

In the meantime, several other groups were doing high ropes with helmets and harnesses. One group had to climb up to a twenty-five foot high log and walk or scoot across it, then abseil down while the other group raced up a ladder that had rungs that got further and further apart, up to a thirty-foot high summit.

The day finished with SPOTLIGHT in the DARK. ‘That was my favourite part! Luella and I won all four times and we got to see the stars.’  Mabel reports. Seems they had an adventurous day.

The next day, it was time to get up and prepare for a wet, wet day by the seaside at Stoddard Point where they orienteered, coasteered, kayaked, and built rafts in the Thursday sunshine. ‘Raft building was a complete catastrophe for our group’, said Indi today. ‘Coasteering was my favourite’ said Luella, ‘I liked jumping off of the rocks the best.’ Maeve reports that orienteering was ‘fun but tiring’ and Rosie says that she liked the kayaking challenges.

On the last day,  everyone was woken up by loud music played by the teachers on a big speaker located by the picnic tables. The Year 6-7s went to Quail Island on a ferry that day. They packed up and were driven back down to Stoddard Point where they caught the ferry to Quail Island. Here are some words to describe the ferry ride
