What's on offer in 'The Arts'?

All learners are fortunate to participate in a wide range of opportunities within the 'Arts'

The Tai Tapu School Arts Curriculum

The Arts curriculum at Tai Tapu School aims to provide rich and varied experiences for all learners.

Arts curriculum programme

Our curriculum is a 3-year programme that focuses on the 4 strands of the arts through an authentic experience.  Each year, during Term 3, tamariki will participate and experience one of the following programmes over three years:

  • A  School Production that focuses on the dramatic arts
  • A Wearable Arts Show that focuses on visual arts and the dramatic arts
  • A Film Festival that focuses on digital movie making and storytelling.

Music

All learners are also fortunate to participate in a weekly music programme at Tai Tapu School.

This is a highly effective music programme based on the Kodaly method to create a structured, interactive, collaborative and kinesthetic learning environment.

This involves the careful sequencing of musical concepts and elements presented in a way that is meaningful to the child. This is facilitated by Helen Murray a highly talented and experienced music teacher.

Christchurch School of Music

Instruments: we offer opportunities for your child to learn musical instruments in school time: guitar, keyboard, piano, clarinet, flute, violin, cello, drums, trumpet, French horn, trombone, saxophone.

Private tutors work on-site with children. Each tutor will have a recommended age for beginning lessons. A notice comes home at the start of the year with these details or is available from the notice board in the administration block. Those children learning violin and cello also have the opportunity to play in the ‘ string ensemble’ which rehearses weekly.
