Maths Week 2021

Tai Tapu SchoolAugust 10, 2021

This week is Maths Week! It was established by the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers (NZAMT) in 1998, and is now in its 23rd year of operation. It is a premier mathematics event in the New Zealand school calendar, gaining the attention of an estimated audience of more than 250,000 students, teachers and parents from around New Zealand in August each year.

Find out more about NZAMT at http://www.nzamt.org.nz/

This week it has provided the teachers and students at Tai Tapu school with the opportunity to step outside of our regular classroom mathematics and to take advantage of the activities, challenges and games provided by a team of nz maths experts.

Maths Week material is written:

  • to encourage students’ interest in mathematics and statistics
  • to give teachers resources that they can use in the classroom, particularly material that requires some research and which may not be readily available to them, or that can be used electronically in class
  • to show the pleasure that mathematics can provide and some of the everyday places where it can be used
  • to give teachers material that can provide extension.

Parents! Here is a link to the families and whanau section of NZMaths, it’s full of great ideas to try and ways you can support your child with maths
