Sporting Excellence, Leadership Activities and more

The Principal —

The Southland Athletics Championships were held last weekend. To have twelve students represent our school is an incredible achievement. And testament to the commitment of the students in training, persevering and giving it their best. Arriving at the ILT Stadium to such a competitive event can be daunting, however after some initial butterflies, our athletes were focussed. And the feeling of achievement and reflection was evident with some personal bests and goals set for the future.

Some excellent results were achieved. Congratulations to

Dominique 2nd 100m, 2nd 200m, 2nd long jump

Jack S 1st discus, 3rd shot put

Talia 1st nerf throw

Isla 3rd discus

Tara 4th 1500m

Dominique, Isla, Talia 2nd 100m relay

But then there was more! A nail-biting finale to the Y5/6 Southland Miniball competition as our team played Myross Bush in the final. It was a thriller and the tenacity of our players won the day and the competition! What a proud moment and testament to their commitment, team work and lots of practice.

Southland Basketball Association selectors were talent spotting during the games for potential SBA players for the future.  Issac Year 5, has been selected and is today playing; a huge achievement as Year 6 students were considered first.

We are having a special Sports Award Assembly to celebrate sporting excellence. Please check the events calendar for details and of other events coming up.

A huge thank you to the coaches and supporters who spend so much time supporting our tamariki. We have a huge team of parents and whānau behind the scenes who tirelessly give. It is truly appreciated.

And thank you to our amazing PTA who support the school in so many ways. The gasps of delight from the junior students spotting the new sandpit toys was pure delight. Christmas arrived early!

Our Year 8's enjoyed their Big Day Out in Queenstown. And today our future leaders are off to the Leadership Course at Adventure Southland.

The end of year events are in full swing. Swimming starts next week. Teachers are collating assessment data and writing reports. We look forward to sharing success and achievement with you. Staffing details, classes, stationery details for 2023 will be shared shortly.

Have a great weekend.

Kia pai tō rā whakatā.
