Kereru - Back and Raring to go

Liz Whitehead —

Wednesday saw Year 6 finishing off the follow up from Camp. They completed writing, the display format and have almost finished collating the video, which will be shared on completion.

It was great to be back with everyone this week and to finish off some work from Week 1 and begin our Social Sciences and Aotearoa New Zealand Histories work on significant New Zealand Events.  We introduced this by looking at The Wahine Disaster, exploring the changes in technology and listening to the accounts of the disaster from people at the time.  Tamariki then decided which events they wanted to explore and three things they wanted to find out about. It is going to be interesting as students explore everything from the Tarawera eruption and destruction of the pink and white terraces, the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior, the Erebus disaster, women winning the right to vote, the Springbok Tour and much more.  The discussions were becoming quite heated around things that have happened.

We have explored drama through Freeze Framing and Hot seating looking at both Camp and then the ANZAC stories.  It was great to see tamariki enjoying this style of learning

We are looking forward to the Shark's game on Sunday.  Have a great weekend.

Ngā mihi
