Kereru - Week 7 Term 3

Liz Whitehead —

The week started off with Harold from the Life Education bus visiting. This year we were looking at the bodies systems and the brain, including how we train the brain to achieve great things.

This week we have integrated Science and literacy and spent time looking at natural electricity sources with groups exploring Hydro Power, Solar power and wind power.  Each group looking at how it works and including a New Zealand example of this type of power.

We have been continuing with our fractions work and have secured for most students the ability to add and subtract fractions, to multiply fractions and to multiply fractions of whole numbers.  We will be looking more at decimals and percentages in the next couple of weeks.

We had Mark from Active Southland in and he was teaching us some more games from his Kete and tamariki had a great afternoon with this.

We have been having a lot of conversations around respect and how we talk to each other and adults iat school in our class.  There have been incidents of name calling and tamariki being disrespectful to each other and to staff, it is not going to be tolerated and we will be using our behaviour process to teach our expectations around this issue. We are working hard to encourage tamariki to be respectful and will be dealing further with this over the coming week.

A huge congratulations to the group of students who put together the sports mufti day with sausages and hot chocolate and a snack bar.  They did a fabulous job and raised some money towards new sports gear.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
