Ruru newsletter Term 4 - Week 1-2
Kia ora Ruru Parents and Whānau,
Welcome back, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and restful break. The students have come back full of energy and enthusiasm, diving straight into our learning with science investigations and a class presentation at assembly.
As part of our inquiry into our sense of place — exploring where our school is located (Nightcaps) and the surrounding areas where we live — we have been learning about the origins of our school house names. This naturally led us to explore the history of coal mining in our area, what coal is, and why it is considered a non-renewable resource. From there, we looked at renewable energy sources and discussed how these are better for our environment. The students really enjoyed investigating these ideas and sharing their learning during our presentation.
Looking ahead, we’ll continue building on these ideas by connecting them to how we can care for our environment and community today. Students will be taking part in hands-on activities and discussions about sustainability and the small changes we can make to reduce our impact on the planet. It’s been fantastic to see their curiosity and thoughtful questions about how the past, present, and future link together in our local area.
Ngā mihi nui,
Mr C
