Tuakana-Teina learning happening in Ruru this week
This is a valuable teaching tool where experts share their knowledge with younger or older tamariki.
This can be younger tamariki teaching older, or older teaching the younger depending on the activity. They then help and guide each other within the class. We have had tamariki take small groups and teach them certain skills and crafts that they are experts in. Not only are they practicing oral language skills but they are negotiating ideas and adapting to different learners within the different activities. Great learning conversations have been happening throughout the week because of this.
Carrying on from our learning of blends over the last couple of weeks we have become "Blend Detectives" in the class. We have been spying all the blends that we see within the classroom and grouping these together to create class lists. Their challenge is to see what blends they can find at home as well. Also coming home today in reading bags are "100 boards" for each child to practice their number knowledge. Check out the back to see ideas for consolidating learning.
