Week 9 News!
Another short week for us! We continued our exploration of Matariki, building on last week's look into Van Gogh’s "Starry Night."
This week, we read "A Matariki Breakfast" and shared our experiences celebrating Matariki. We crafted lanterns to provide light for stargazing at Matariki and explored the foods and activities that make it a wonderful family celebration.
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" was a fantastic resource for teaching rhyming words and sound recognition. We looked into synonyms and antonyms for words like "star," -glow, shine etc." Echoing and choral reading the song helped improve fluency and confidence.
On Wednesday, we flexed our muscles by moving plants from our Garden To Table tunnel house to the Kereru corridor in preparation for the Community Kai Evening. The evening was the highlight of the week, as Piwakawaka enjoyed a variety of treats prepared by Kereru and spent time with whanau and friends at school.
Happy Matariki, Piwakawaka whanau!
