Year 7/8 Western Basketball Competition
On Wednesday 13 of our Kereru Students headed into Invercargill to take part in the Western Basketball Competition.
This was the first time we had been out playing in our new Strips and the tamariki looked amazing. The competition was split into two pools and our teams were in opposite pools. The tamariki decided that they wanted to play as the boys team and the girls team as they had done in the competition earlier in the year.
The team each played three pool games against Waiau Area School, Otautau School and Hauroko Valley School, winning all of those games comfortably we ended up with a Takitimu Boys versus Takitimu Girls Final.
It was a very good game and the teams stayed pretty tight for a long time. The boys then struck a lead and were 8 points ahead. After 1/2 time the girls came back and the last minute of the game was nail biting as the girls lead and the boys pulled the goal back meaning at the end of time it was a draw.
They then played extra time until someone scored the first goal. The girls managed that and were the winners of the game. A massive day for all involved and very well played.
Thank you to Kathy and Donna who helped with transport to get the tamariki to and from the stadium and to Jenna who coached the boys team and Gemma from Active Southland who stepped in to help out at the beginning of the day.
