Kereru - Week 7 2023
Basketball, Athletics, Music, Sausage Sales, STEM, Maths and English; it has been all go this week.
This week has seen the start of our integrated unit on food. We have written in descriptive style about our favourite food, although I think some tamariki were stretching their imaginations with what they came up with. We have linked this to Maths with students being in groups and having a recipe which they have doubled and halved, then worked out how to change it so it serves 30 people. Once completed they have priced out the ingredients and we will finish off by cooking the food next week.
For our STEM challenge we have a group working on a solar oven and everyone else trying to build a chair capable of holding them out of newspaper and tape. There are some interesting designs out there so I hope they will work!
Our basketball teams are going out on Tuesday afternoons for coaching sessions with Southland Basketball and then playing their games after. This promises to be a very exciting part of the week and the tamariki were buzzing about it on Wednesday.
Wednesday saw us hosting Western Athletics and most of Kereru competing or helping at the events. The sportsmanship shown by our athletes was very good and congratulations to Talia, Kylah, Jack T, Isla, Jack S and Emily who qualified for Southland.
Friday saw us working with the PTA and Tui to put together the final touches for the stalls for the Colour Run next Friday.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
