Ti Rakau/Stick Games

Karen Crosbie - March 28, 2024

Ti Rakau Maori Stick Game is a classic traditional NZ game which has been played for generations. It helps teach Maori songs and improves eye-hand coordination at the same time with rhythmic tapping plus throwing and catching of sticks between two players.

We had a lot of fun this week learning a traditional Maori stick game. The tamariki chose a buddy, we watched some games on youtube, then everyone had a go.

There was a lot of hilarity as everyone was dropping their rakau left right and centre.

We persevered and in the end everyone was quite competent. We will be practicing again next week and throughout the year.

Have a great Easter break everyone.
