Course Selection is coming up fast

Making subject choices for 2021 can be both exciting and sometimes worrying, however there is plenty of time to have great conversations with teachers and the careers department to confirm the best options. Please save the date of Tuesday 8th September for our Future Pathways evening, where all subjects teachers will be present to answer questions about their subjects. There will also be loads of other information around the six Vocational Pathways, Tertiary Providers, Apprenticeships etc

Please see below for some helpful links -

School Website & Inzone Kiosk

If you haven’t already, please visit the careers section on the school website. It has loads of information and links to helpful information.

Also, remember the Inzone kiosk is in our school library for any student to use during interval and lunchtimes, when the library is open. The kiosk is an interactive way for students to explore different jobs, study options and vocational pathways.

Career Appointments

If you would like to make an appointment with our Careers Advisor, please make contact with Mrs Roberts dr@tauhara.school.nz. I am more than happy to accommodate appointments during school hours or after hours, for students and/or parents. Zoom may become the preferred method of having these meetings. They are very easy to set up - just need an email address. Appointments are available and encouraged for any students at any level.

Part time/Full time Work or Apprentices

If you are a business owner looking for casual/part time or full time workers please feel free to contact the Careers team and we can see if there are students that meet your requirements. If looking for an apprentice we can also see if there are suitable students. The Gateway programme is a great way to see if a student will be suitable for an apprenticeship without the big commitment of signing them up first.

Construction and Infrastructure Week

Week 3, the Careers team hosted a Construction and Infrastructure week. Students were invited to a guest speaking session on Tuesday. Glynn from Wade Construction, Tui Pitiori from Higgins, Reg Currin from Competenz and Ethan Christensen from Quality Builders shared great stories of how they entered the industry, how they got jobs, where or how they became qualified, how to get an apprenticeship and much more valuable information for our students. Thank you to our guest speakers who took the time out of their day to help our students.

Students competed in various challenges and activities. Guess how many lollies- with a twist. The lollies were also combined with nails. Bonus points for guessing the number of nails.

TATD won with the closet guesses of both lollies and nails. Lollies/nails= 51/ 181

Stacey, Mckayla, Azzedine, Jaundre, and Hannah with guesses of 50 or 52 and 185

The tutor challenge was won by ARJS with 35/35.

Gateway

Term 3 is off to a good start with many more of our Gateway Students starting their Gateway placements. This term students have placements in stone masonry, aged care, roofing, nails and beauty, helicopter maintenance, plumbing and electrical. Terms being ten weeks is perfect to fit our students in to meet the minimum requirement for the practical component of our Gateway Program. Students are working hard to meet the academic component of 20 credits. Thanks again Taupo businesses for being so receptive when you are approached to take students on.

You are welcome to visit the Careers Department anytime.
