Careers News

Delwyn Roberts —

General

We have been kept super busy over the last few weeks with many awesome opportunities for students on offer, and there are more coming up for Term 3. These are always advertised in the daily notices, FB, Career Central and sometimes emails for identified interested students.

All senior students have been encouraged to log onto Career Central, and whilst most have, there are many who haven’t. Could you please support your student in doing this - it is an extremely helpful tool for them to explore work and study options, scholarships, CV etc etc.   And above all it helps the careers team to organise relevant guest speakers, events and support.

NEED HELP

- Not sure what to do next year ?

-Losing motivation ?

-Confused about your options ?

-Just need some confirmation on your plans ?

Parents and students are more than welcome to book appointment times with me to discuss study and career pathway options Delwyn Roberts - dr@tauhara.school.nz or request an appointment through Career Central.

Trades

Well done to all our Toi Ohomai Trades students, for your commitment to your courses. I have some very positive feedback from the tutors. Hopefully a credit update will be available early next term.

Congratulations to Luke McAneney who won a $100 prezzy card for completing a Trades Academy survey recently !

Lifeskills

Most students have completed the two voluntary components of the L2W programme, one at T-Ball and the other with Bike Taupo. Some of the group also visited local business Vistalite, this was an interesting visit and gave the students other options to consider.

It is imperative that all students keep attending the L2W class on Wednesdays, Ako 2 in the Wharenui. This is an extra class to their timetable, non attendance will mean they will not graduate with the Licence to Work certificate, which will be a real shame.

Also attendance to the Lifeskills timetabled class with Ms Gosai or Mr Hermann is important to achieve the unit standards required.

Gateway

Gateway placements are in full swing this Term. Students have just completed the last of the First Aid and Health and Safety courses. We have a lot of students starting placement at the start of Term 3. Pest control, Beauty, Reception, Auto Mechanic, Farming, Sheet metal engineer.
