Mana Maori
Over the past term, the Mana Māori classes have been working on a kaitiakitanga assessment which involved carrying out a local kaitiakitanga activity. The chosen activity included setting up rat traps, recording data and monitoring the lines to reduce the rat population in the Awaroa area. This project required the classes to collaborate with local hapū- Ngāti Tutemohuta to gain consent to trap the area as well as Robyn Ellis from Predator Free 2050. This was a very successful assessment which has contributed to removing a large number of rats and mice from the area to support the native tree and bird population.
