Yr12 Physics Trip

Jason Butterfield —

On Tuesday 9th June Year 12 Physics students tested their own human power at Whakapapa. We weighed ourselves including our backpacks and then walked as fast as we could up the Bruce Road. Using some Year 12 Physics we worked out our own power by dividing the time taken in seconds by the amount of energy we gained going up the hill. After that we tramped to the nearby Whakapapaiti Hut for a night, arriving just after dark and enjoying amazing views of the Whakapapaiti Valley in the dusk. Crossing the Whakapapaiti next morning was a (very) cold business and there were yelps of pain as the freezing water soaked into ankles and feet! After a few hours we reached Whakapapa Village for a perfect coffee and chips from the coffee cart. We had a great trip - Amisha even said she might even go again!
