Yr 11 Mana Maori trip

Kieran Te Kurapa —

This term on the 8th,9th and 10th of June, the Year 11 Mana Maori students took part in a camp down the Whakatane River from Ruatahuna. This was an important learning opportunity for the students that related to three different assessments within the course:

  • demonstrate responsible behaviors in the outdoors
  • demonstrate knowledge of tikanga for the preparation of kararehe
  • demonstrate knowledge of Kai preservation.

The camp covered a wide variety of activities including, hunting, fishing, horse riding, and tikanga Māori.

Overall it was an amazing trip with challenges, learning opportunities and experiences that we hope the students will remember forever.

A special mention must go to Anthony Te Kurapa, Kieran Te Kurapa, Shanan Harrington and Jenny Harrington for the organisation and management of these amazing learning experiences for our tamariki. Mauri ora!
