Ben Hancock —

Kia ora whanau,

It was great to receive the news last week from NZQA about the learning recognition credits for our senior students.

Students will be entitled to 1 learning recognition credit (LRC) for every 5 credits earned through assessment, up to a maximum of:

NCEA Level Maximum LRCs

Level 1 - 10 credits

Level 2 - 8 credits

Level 3 - 8 credits

To receive a certificate endorsement, students will need 46 credits at Merit or Excellence level, instead of the usual 50. To be awarded University Entrance, students will need 14 credits in each of two UE Approved subjects, and 12 credits in a third UE Approved Subject (they will also need to attain NCEA Level 3 and meet the regular literacy and numeracy requirements).

The disruption of COVID, illness and isolating has had an impact on the majority of our students at some point in time this year. This support from NZQA with the LRC’s will help a number of our students in their attainment of the NCEA levels.

In week 6 we have a number of students involved in the annual tournament week for sports. It has been 3 years since a number of these events were able to be held due to COVID. It is a great opportunity for our students to finally be able to get out and represent their school, whanau and themselves in their respective sports. Well done to all of our students who are taking part in this opportunity.

As we approach the end of Term three it is timely that we take stock of the progress all of our students have had this year, and to reset before the busy end of the year. We have school exams coming up before the end of this term, and then external NCEA exams start on 7th November (week 4). It is an important time of the year for all of our students, it is great having the support of their whanau during this period of the school year, as things get a lot busier.

You may have noticed the media campaign on improving school attendance lately. Across the country, everyone has been noticing increased absenteeism from students. We know that the more a student is in school, the more learning they will be exposed to. We want all of our students to be at school with us more often, however, we also understand there are a number of reasons why students are away from school. If your child is going to be away from school you can help us by letting us know. We can then look to support your child with their learning while they are away from school. If your child is away can you please let us know by using the school app, calling the office or emailing our office info@tauhara.school.nz.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.
