Congratulations Keira Allott!

T C —

Keira recently competed in Adelaide at the South Australian Short Course Championships. She had fantastic results and represented Taupo well.

Entering 9 events, Keira beat her personal best times in all 9 events and got medals in 8 of the 9 events - 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze (she was less than 1 second off a bronze medal in one event and placed 4th). One of her silver medals was in the Opens 1500m freestyle. This means it is not according to age (her other medals were for 14 year old females) and swimmers of all ages are competing against each other. Keira was the youngest in this race at 14 and swimmers ranged in age from 14-35 years old.

Keira travelled to this competition and stayed with swimmers from a club in Tauranga as she was the lone Taupo swimmer. In terms of the team rankings in the championships, Taupo was ranked 23rd out of 39 clubs. Not bad for a single swimmer.

The coach who looked after Keira also advised that he had looked up the swimming database (Take Your Marks) and as a result of her times in Australia, she now has the fastest times in NZ for a 14 year old girl in 400 freestyle, 800 free and 1500 free and is second fastest in 200 free (difference between first and second is 0.26 seconds).

Well done Keira, amazing results!
