BoP Snowsports Champs

Andrea Mertens —

The Bay of Plenty (BoP) Secondary Schools Snowsports Champs were held on Monday 16 August on the Pinnacles course at Whakapapa.

We placed third this year which is a great achievement with a team of 9 skiers, all of whom are Junior skiers (Yr 9-11 students) and new to this competition. The last time the BoP champs were held was in 2018.

On the day, the conditions were very patchy with a mixture of white-out, sunny skies, and rain. Nearly 70 competitors from 10 different schools took the icy conditions and new course in their stride. Amelie Wood placed third, Stella Wyatt fourth, Stevie Manunui fifth, Emma Speedy seventh, Rachel Mace ninth, and Sienna Nepia 17th in the Junior Girls’ category which is a fantastic result.

The boys also had good results in their races placing as follows: Patrick Atiken 10th, Tahoe McLean 15th, and Aiden West 19th.

We are now preparing for our next competition which will be the North Islands on Monday 20 Sept. Thank you for the parental support on the day.
