Gymnastics Star Coaches

Setsuko Sawada —

Tauhara College senior students, Kirsty Smits, Lily Scott, and Andrew Bullock have been busy coaching the junior and intermediate squads at Mt Tauhara Gymnastics Club and are having a successful year with their students' outstanding results in the competitions.

Andrew Bullock coaches Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Levels 2 and 4, and he has also spent time coaching the Step 5 girls this year. His boys have all had top 3 apparatus and overall placings at their competitions this year. This is an especially great achievement for his level 2 boys, Levi Lamb and Daniel More, as it is their first year competing.

Andrew is an accomplished gymnast himself, qualifying to compete for the Waikato team in tumbling at the NZ Gymnastics Championships in 2 weeks time.

As an ex-competitive gymnast, Kirsty Smits coaches Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. She has developed her group of Step 2 girls over the last two years to a level where they are now competing in regional competitions and regularly achieving top 3 apparatus and overall placings in their competitions. Kirsty also coaches the Precomp girls who are preparing to start competing in 2022.

Lily Scott also coaches Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, focusing mainly on the Step 1 girls. Lily has produced great results with these girls, some placing in the top 3 on apparatus in regional competitions.

Their hard work, commitment, and contribution to the community are much appreciated.
