Library News

Connie Karl —

Fiction books in the library have been re-organised this term. They were organised according to authors last name. The books are now displayed in Genre Categories.

To do this, it has required:

  • 1. Reading the back of each book.
  • 2. Deciding which genre it belongs to.
  • 3.  Movement and organisation of all books so the Genre Categories fit neatly in the shelves.
  • 4. Putting new labels on the book spines.
  • 5. Entering the new location (Genre Category) of every book into the computer records.

The reason for this re-organisation is that our students are looking for books according to genre (often not worried about who the author is). They want to know all the books we have available in that genre. Students can now go to the shelf and see exactly what we have in the different categories. The hope is that this new system will support students to easily find what they are looking for, to help broaden the scope of their reading genres and maybe entice them to read books they otherwise wouldn't have thought of.As you can imagine this task has required many hours of persistent dedication to see it completed. It couldn't have been done without the support of the following Student Librarians who gave their time willingly and unselfishly:

Ana Tamaru, Emily Jones, Holly Clarkson, Katherine Davy, Maggie Gibson.  Special mention must be given to the dedication and support of Tanya Walley. Tanya gave many hours of her time, even returning to school after she finished her exams to help finish the job. Thank you to all of these students for their work and dedication. I really could not have done it without you!! Merry Christmas to all of you and I hope you have a great summer!
