L1 Mana Maori trips

Kieren Te Kurapa —

At the end of Term 1, the Level 1 Mana Māori class set out on camp in the Te Urewera rainforest. This related to three standards around traditional kai preservation, tikanga for the preparation of kararehe for kai and risk management.

The camp also involved a range of activities such as horse riding, hunting, learning local tikanga and a pōwhiri and wānanga in one of the most isolated Marae in New Zealand- Ohaua o te Rangi.

While this trip was centered around three assessments, there was also a lot of learning around Kaitiakitanga, Manaakitanga and Tūhoe tikanga.

A big acknowledgement must be made to Anthony Te Kurapa for giving up his time, mātauranga and horses for this opportunity for our tamariki. Awesome!
