Phil McCreery —

Kia Ora Whanau,

Just as the school was getting back to normal we find ourselves once again at Level 2.  While this is unsettling in terms of the day to day operation of the school, it has little real impact on daily activities.

Classes continue to run as normal, however, we are not able to hold full school assemblies.  Some school trips will need to be postponed and some sporting events may be affected.

Please feel reassured that we work closely with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and they will inform us if they believe the school is at risk and we will follow their advice.

Obviously the situation could change following this afternoons Government announcement but we will keep you fully informed if any change is required.

At this stage our Senior students, Yrs 11, 12 and 13, will be having their exams next week.  It is important that they attend and do their best as the results from these exams will be used to estimate grades if the end of year exams were not to go ahead for some reason.  This week is not just about exams and many students may have no exams at all.   There are however, numerous opportunities for students to catch up with internal assessment projects and to improve their results through a number of reassessment opportunities.  There is also the opportunity for students to study at school.   Tutor teachers have worked with the Senior students to develop a plan and timetable for next week and students should be able to share their plans with you.   Please encourage them to make the most of this opportunity.

Next week would be our normal Year 8 Enrolment week which involves an Open Evening for parents and daily tours of the school for Year 8 students.  Under Level 2 conditions it is not possible to go ahead with these activities and as a result we are postponing them.  Once we have a clear indication of when it will be safe to go ahead, we will let those concerned know.

Obviously this is a unique year but the school is determined to do the best for our students.
