Careers News

Delwyn Roberts —

It's great to see some sunshine again, so we can open our doors and put out our displays. Please feel free to come and have a look during intervals or lunchtimes. Each week we have the Career Central - Job of the Week on display.

Last weekend we went to Wellington to visit the Victoria and Massey Open days, this helps in the decision-making process for those considering these campuses.

Taupo Pathways Careers District Roadshow

We can’t wait to take our students along to this event, which has been interrupted by COVID for the past few years. It is an awesome opportunity for students at all levels to explore some pathways to transition into when leaving school, this includes work, apprenticeships, and study.

Students will be transported to the Great Lake Centre in buses with their teachers and will spend 1.15 hours exploring options.

Ako 1 - Year 12 and Year 11

Ako 2 - Year 10

Ako 3 - Year 9

This week during whanau time, students will be encouraged to participate in daily careers-based activities to gain points for their waka and a prize for their class. Good luck everyone!

Job Board

If you are interested in finding part-time or full-time work please come and take a look at our job board in the careers department. It has many great positions available at the moment.

Other good places to look are on shop and business windows or on Facebook; Taupo situations vacant, Jobs & Employment Taupo, or Taupo Jobs.

MoneyHub - Student Jobs

Also, always happy to review any CVs before sending them to an employer.

Where to from school?

Gateway

Congratulations to Emily Davy in Line 5 for being the first Gateway student to achieve 30 credits! Close behind are Cameron Doig, Celista Greyling, and Kiara Thomasen also in the same class. In Line 3, Nepia Tukaki-Kohere is the closest to the 30 credit target.

After almost three terms, most students have completed their work placements (for 10 weeks) with very positive feedback from the employers and our students. Next month we will be taking all Gateway and Licence to Learn students on a one-day field trip to visit a variety of businesses operating in our community. Future employment opportunities right there!

Kia Kaha team and go for it!

Toi Ohomai Trades Academy

Congratulations to those students who are attending trades each week and will complete the mahi required to gain the full credits. Such a great opportunity to experience life on campus and learn some new skills. Prizegiving will be early next term, with more information to follow shortly.

We are happy to help any student explore options and thoughts around careers.
