PTA Golf fundraiser

Sue Goldsmith —

Congratulations to out wonderful PTA who raised about $8000 for the school with their recent Golf Fundraiser on March 15. This was the third time this event has been held. The money is earmarked for school equipment or projects that are not funded by the Ministry so it has become a valuable and much appreciated asset for the teachers. Over the last three years the money has funded class sets of iPads for students in the Junior Social Studies and Science classes, lighting equipment for the Drama Room, a much needed commercial fridge for the Hospitality course and a “top of the line” computer for the Senior Music students seen here using it to record their assessment work.

Part of the fundraising on the day were a group of volunteers from the Tauhara Awards team. These students manned the food stand at the 10th Hole and their contribution added to the funds.

This is not the only fundraising venture by the PTA. They also run the Volunteers Food Tent at Ironman. The money earned from this helps to support sports teams and cultural activities in the school as well as individual students who are representing the College at various events.

Currently many of the members of this group are people whose children left the College some years ago. Their enthusiasm and loyalty to the school keeps them working to improve the learning of your students. However they do need more people to join the PTA so they can keep organising Fundraising events. Please if you can give some time to this worthy cause the PTA meet once a month at the school, usually on a Thursday. So come along and be part of the team.
