Week 1, Term 4 Bulletin

Keith Buntting —

Welcome to what is promising to be another busy term...

Dear Parents, Whānau, Caregivers and Students,

Welcome to Week 1 of Term Four.

After a very busy end to Term Three, we are looking forward to a positive last term. This is a very important time for all of our students to consolidate their learning and finish the year in the strongest possible position. It’s an ideal time to evaluate our goals and learning intentions and make sure that we are on track. For our Year 11, 12 and 13 students especially, there is just over a month before the NCEA examinations and being well prepared for these is an absolute priority.

Passing of one of our students

It is with a very heavy heart that I acknowledge the passing of one of our students at the beginning of the holiday break. Dayna-Jayne, in Year 10 had joined Tauhara College at the beginning of Term Three. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with her family.

Students have been encouraged to speak to our school counsellor, Ms Helen Bissett or the counsellors from our support group REAL, should they need any support.

Late Start Wednesdays

We have two late start Wednesdays’ this term, with the first one being on Wednesday 6 November, followed by one on Wednesday 20 November. However, please note that next week, Wednesday 23 October is our final NCEA Focus Day for all Year 11, 12 and 13 students.

AMPED 4 LIFE Drug Awareness Talk

This Wednesday at 10.00 a.m. there will be a special assembly where Pat Buckley from AMPED 4 LIFE will be presenting drug awareness and building resilience to lead a healthy and balanced life. Pat comes highly recommended and this is a timely conversation considering that drugs are still such a damaging influence in society generally. We are extremely grateful to our PTA for sponsoring this talk.

NCEA Focus Day - Wednesday 23 October

Next week on Wednesday will be our second and final NCEA Focus Day for all Year 11, 12 and 13 students. This is a focused time for consolidating achievement and examination preparation. All Year 11, 12 and 13 students are expected to be at school and taking part in three extended learning sessions. I once again humbly ask that Year 9 and 10 students be at home on this day to allow the time for this.

New Student Representative on the Board of Trustees
Congratulations to Stacia Haitana in Year 11, who has been elected to the position of Student Representative on the Tauhara College Board of Trustees.

We were very fortunate to have a great cross section of students from across all year levels who were nominated for this position. It is very positive that our students are so willing to be part of the leadership of our school and make positive contributions to our future. The Board is very much looking forward to working with Stacia during her time in this position.

Senior Academic Reports

Year 11, 12 and 13 Reports have been published to the Edge Portal. If you have a student in Year 11, 12 or 13 you should have received an email. Please let the office know if you have not yet received your students results.

Whanau voice survey:

Kia ora Whanau and our school community

Please find below a link that will take you to a survey.

Survey Link

This survey is your chance to tell us how you think your child/student is doing at Tauhara College. It is also your opportunity to tell us how you feel about things at Tauhara College and any thoughts you have as we move forward in this ever changing area of education in New Zealand. We truly value your time and any comments you would like to contribute, we will use this data in a planning session during the last few weeks of this term.

If you have any questions around this please feel free to contact me or the Principal.

Thank you for your time,

Rebecca Harvey - Kahui Ako Within-School Leader

Government School Donation Scheme

As a Decile 6 school, we have been given the option to join the Government’s new school donation scheme from 2020. Additional information on this can be found at the following site:

Link to MOE Information Sheet

It is highly likely we will join this scheme as we feel that this will be in the best interests of our school and our community. However, the Board of Trustees will make their final decision at their Board meeting on Wednesday 23 October. If you would like to add any comments about this decision please email them through the Principal’s PA, Mrs Chris Page at cp@tauhara.school.nz

Have a good week everyone.
