YR11 RUAPEHU TRIP

Jason Butterfield —

On Thursday 24th June, Year 11 students were given the opportunity to experience a walk through the Tongariro National Park followed by a formal dinner at the Chateau Tongiriro.

Before the walk we got to visit Opotaka Historic Reserve near Lake Rotoaira, which was really interesting as it holds a lot of historical significance. Anianawa's Dad Heemi was able to meet us there to tell us legends of the area and the connections this place holds to Tauhara. We are grateful that he gave his time to do this, as his presentation was fascinating. Our walk was pretty muddy which resulted in a bit of slipping and sliding but with the help of each other we were able to get through the 10km long track safely. After arriving at the Chateau we all got into our nice clothes and enjoyed a buffet dinner together with teachers. Mr Piper reflected on the fact that we are now half way through our journey at T.C. It was a nice way to end a great day.

Thank you to Mr Butterfield, Mr Harrington, Matua Kieran, Ms Callaghan, Mr Piper and all the other teachers who supported this opportunity.
